Hello My Little Doves!
       Iona Uradreams here with My Media Muse reporting to you from My Pink Settee.  Gather Round little doves, todays Tale and Whisper no longer remain a Whisper or a Tale. Yes that's right, today marks the first day in History, all 50 States Recognize Same Sex Marriage.
     Below the Supreme Court is swarmed with friends and family celebrating the long awaited ruling. 

                 After years of protests for and against Marriage equality, tears and frankly all that paperwork... Marriage Equality rings true in all 50 States with people rejoicing in excitement after 45 years of legal battles are over.  Not only is Marriage legal but it sets the precedent in the Supreme Courts over religious-freedom and non-discrimination legislation. 

       One thing that stuck out to me in the ruling was a eloquently put description of Marriage that not only sums it up, but makes us feel hope as we read it:
                "No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right." Justice Anthony Kennedy.

                Hello my Little Doves! Iona Uradreams here from My Pink Settee. It was truly fitting that the Birth of my new Blog "Tales from the Settee" started on the same month as this years Celebrations for Los Angeles Gay Pride. Not to mention I was the first few seconds in the news report for KTLA News when they did their story,

Congratulations to  Los Angeles Gay Pride for celebrating 45 years commemorating the Stone Wall Riots.

..... and for those who got up so early their eyes needed crutches to help them dodge the mass of flamboyant crowds in the streets, (Pauses to take sip from a colorful cocktail glass while kicking the crutches under the Settee). Not like me at all...
      Thousands of people on Santa Monica Blvd. joined in the festivities by laughing and rejoicing in the freedoms that where fought by lives and passion in our nation 45 years ago. The crowd contained a spectrum of the community, from the young generation who have only been to a few Prides, to the older generations who have been supporting the festival and its history for some time. While most of the younger generation are at the festival to let loose and dance, the older generation still knows how to reflect while enjoying themselves. 
                We hope the younger generation will learn their Gay History as much as they want to party. Having a personal responsibility to know our history is important so we can direct our own future. My only challenge to the older generation was that they pass on their love for Gay Pride and the knowledge it brings. We have opportunities to express ourselves to our little ones of that hope, love, and how we obtained it. 
    So being a inquisitive Drag Queen I went around the parade and festival and caught a few off guard with some questions about their gay history. One of my favorites was Pam. I happen to catch her before she got in her car and she was more then willing to be a victim of interrogation. Now it's not so bad, I did make it multiple choice so you have options, but I did try to trip them up... Pam did well on her first question, but not on the harder one just after.
 

    Even after the Parade had finished I was able to snag a group and ask them some harder questions that had no multiple choice, but I gave them a life line to grab someone walking by and help with the question. Let's see how many Pride dwellers it takes to answer a question..... 

     Even though the Questions may be hard, we can always ask a friend to help us answer them. Helping us start more conversations and build our friendships with others in the community.  I was truly blessed by the people I met, and my life will be forever influenced to help pass on the knowledge and friendly conversation. I hope it influences others to make the same decisions and start the conversation with others around them.
