JULY 17, 2017 Singers, Dancers, and comedians gathered together at the Colony Theatre on Sunday, July 16 to showcase their various talents. Performers included host Fritz Coleman a meteorologist from NBC and Sean Kanan, a daytime soap opera star from The Young and the Restless. After the performance, VIP attendees enjoyed complimentary food and wine during a meet & greet session with the performers. Given today’s serious political landscape, it was a refreshing change of pace to see some comedy. Whether it was producer-comedian Jeff Rector joking about President Trump or Coleman’s weather-related routine, each comedian had a fresh take on the climate of the day or their own life experiences. “President Trump was supposed to be here,” Rector joked. “But he telephoned and said he would be unable to make it. He did, however, send us a video.”The video turned out to be a snippet of Rector’s new parody web-series The First 100 Days: a comedic take on Trump’s firs 100 days in office. The series, Rector said, would go straight to YouTube in the near future. At the beginning of the second act, Rector raffled off some prizes to the audience. Prizes included over sized movie posters from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (the popular sequel to the Harry Potter franchise) and DC’s critically-acclaimed film Wonder Woman. Highlights from the second act included Kanan’s experience on Dancing with the Stars (the Italian version) and magic show performed by Bill Perron and Joycelyne Lew of The Magic Castle. The act began with Perron, who pointed a toy guy with a wine bag. Lew then drew multiple bottles of wine from the bag that (realistically) could only hold a single bottle. The duo proceeded to perform other tricks including puncturing a balloon without breaking it and conjuring a live dove on the set. For the final act, singers Daniel Sugimoto and opera singer Diana Taweel performed a duet from the award-winning film La La Land. Author: Meghan McGuillicuddy Publication: My Media Muse
